Did Kylo Ren have a Dark Side Force-vision?

Greetings fellow Star Wars fans! I’m back to do some head scratching about The Force Awakens. There’s no doubt that Rey has some impressive Force powers in The Force Awakens. One power that she definitely seems to have is psychometry. She had a Force-vision when she touched the lightsaber for the first time. It makes you wonder what she experienced the second time she touched it…

ReySaber

We discussed before that Rey’s experience touching the saber may have been, at least in part, due to psychometry. Rey saw some things she had never seen before just by touching the saber, such as the halls of Cloud City.

I’m only pointing this out because it is set up that not every Jedi has this power. It was presented as kind of a big deal that Quinlan Vos could do it in the Clone Wars cartoon. He seemed to be able to do it when Obi Wan didn’t seem to be able to:

QuinlanVosPsychometry

When she touched the lightsaber the second time, in the fight with Kylo Ren, she somehow knew how to fight with the lightsaber. She ultimately defeated Kylo Ren with the saber, so it makes you wonder if she drew more from the saber hilt the second time she touched it, instantly learning how to fight like a Jedi. If we know she’s capable of powerful psychometry, could it explain a lot of what she does throughout the movie?

How about the Millennium Falcon? When she sat in the Millennium Falcon she quickly learned how to fly it, probably as good as Han Solo…yeah, I know that’s a bold statement, but she certainly was amazing. Did she perform some sort of psychometry in order to learn the subtleties of flying the Falcon so quickly? Or is she that precocious? We know she has the powers of psychometry, so this could in part explain why she is so freaking good at flying it. It’s also certainly possible she had test-flown it before for Unkar Plutt or something, because she knew quite a bit about it, but something tells me she used the Force somehow when she flew it. Why? The timing of when she flew it.

There has been an awakening…Have you felt it? –Snoke in The Force Awakens

In fact, I think that this is the awakening that Snoke refers to when talking to Kylo Ren. This scene with Snoke and Kylo is right after the Falcon flying on Jakku. If it was ordinary good piloting, then it wouldn’t be an awakening that Snoke and Kylo would sense with the Force. If her flying was using the Force, and she learned about the Falcon  through touching it, then it would explain the awakening. Of course, it could also be some other type of Force power other than something related to psychometry. Nevertheless, something awoke in Rey, and went from almost crashing the Falcon to piloting it with amazing skill, and Snoke sensed it.

What about Kylo Ren? Many have wondered why he keeps around Vader’s helmet and ashes. The ashes especially are a bit strange.

Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I’ll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started.

What was Kylo “shown”? Well, it would all make sense if Kylo Ren had a Force-vision when he first touched the helmet and/or ashes, just like Rey’s experience touching the saber, where Kylo saw the power of the dark side of the Force. It’s an interesting theory because it suggests that the reason why Kylo is so keen on keeping these artifacts around is because he has gained knowledge and experiences from them through the Force. Perhaps the psychometry-power that Kylo experienced when he originally touched Vader’s ashes is also related to his skills (and Rey’s for that matter) extracting information from people through telepathic intrusion? If true, this further underscores the parallels between Kylo and Rey.
