Weekly Star Wars Recap #55: Sept. 5th 2016

Hello, everyone! Welcome to another edition of the SpoiledBlueMilk Weekly Star Wars recap! And what a recap. We have quite a bit from Rogue One to Rebels to Episode VIII strap in and get the news you need.

New details on Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel

There were some major new details released on the upcoming novel Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel, reported by StitchKingdom. (found viaStarWarsNewsNet) The synopsis reads:

War is tearing the galaxy apart. For years the Republic and the Separatists have battled across the stars, each building more and more deadly technology in an attempt to win the war. As a member of Chancellor Palpatine’s top secret Death Star project, Orson Krennic is determined to develop a superweapon before their enemies can. And an old friend of Krennic’s, the brilliant scientist Galen Erso, could be the key.

Galen’s energy-focused research has captured the attention of both Krennic and his foes, making the scientist a crucial pawn in the galactic conflict. But after Krennic rescues Galen, his wife, Lyra, and their young daughter, Jyn, from Separatist kidnappers, the Erso family is deeply in Krennic’s debt. Krennic then offers Galen an extraordinary opportunity: to continue his scientific studies with every resource put utterly at his disposal. While Galen and Lyra believe that his energy research will be used purely in altruistic ways, Krennic has other plans that will finally make the Death Star a reality. Trapped in their benefactor’s tightening grasp, the Ersos must untangle Krennic’s web of deception to save themselves and the galaxy itself.

Numerous people have pointed out the connection to the prequels here, with the Republic and Separatists mentioned. It paints a picture that there is a long family connection between the Erso’s and Director Krennic. This backstory will almost certainly be touched on in the flashback sequence. This also strongly corroborates the earlier rumor that Valene Kane will play play Lyra Erso (Jyn’s mother) in the flashback sequence, possibly at the beginning of Rogue One. It would make the most sense to me at the beginning, in a sequence kind of like Guardians of the Galaxy.

There’s a new set of Rogue One images

Making Star Wars reported on some new Yahoo movies exclusive stills from Rogue One, Not too much new stuff in there, but still cool nonetheless. The shot of the Death Troopers above looks pretty menacing. Add some TIE fighters flying in the background in post, and we’re talking epic.

Batch of new Rogue One toys gives us more details on the new characters.

Lego released a new playset featuring a new ship from Rogue One, Krennic’s Imperial Shuttle.  Meanwhile, there are a bunch of images coming out of the new Rogue One 3.75in and black series, reported by Making Star Wars  here, and in many ways, this follows the previous leaks by Jedi Temple Archives we had last week. The Disney Store also updated their site with a bunch of Rogue One toys, so it looks like the floodgates have opened.

Also, there’s a new Rebels clip

Of note are some TIE fighter simulators at the beginning. Thrawn definitely is sounding like he could be a really brutal villain. There are a handful of new shots in there, but still painting the same vague picture of Season 3. The Rebels will face a new villain, Thrawn, while Ezra is growing up rapidly and his powers are probably growing even faster. There is another shot of Kanan with green eyes, suggesting that he has some new way of seeing possibly? Many have speculated based on previous images that some Nightsister Magic is involved.

Houndstooth broke an interview with Ian McDarmid will not be in Rogue One as the Emperor.

This is a pretty big deal as it has been rumored he would be showing up. This throws a lot of the theories involving the white column and who exactly is kneeling and why.  Very interesting. And good work on the little guy Houndstooth.

Making StarWars came out with some Episode VIII rumors about another possible “forceback” and more.

It appears that Rey will have another force vision of the past that will show us more detail of what happened to the Jedi Luke was training. I like the idea that we learn Luke’s backstory through the flashbacks rather than the novels that have been used for Leia and the resistance’s backstory.

And finally Starwarsnewsnet.com had this report filling in details on the battle between Luke the Knights of Ren and Kylo and Rey.

Thsi didn’t add a whole lot but it does add one key member, Chewbacca. He wasn’t mentioned in earlier reports but the actor portraying him was on site so it fits that Chewie would be in the mix of a fight. Wookiees have been known to tear people’s arms off.
