Hello Star Wars fans! We’re back for another spoiler-fueled article on The Force Awakens. This time, to contemplate whether or not Finn is a Force-sensitive. This is a question that a lot of people have been wondering after the movie.
Here are a few reasons why I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, Finn is a Force-sensitive.
1. Finn hears the cries of Hosnian Prime.
We have this shot here right before Finn boards the craft of Sidon Ithano:
He looks up, and we hear screams. The screams are clearly coming from Hosnian Prime as this planet is destroyed. At this point, no one else is aware of it, and there’s no way they could be because if anything it would be some faint streaks in the sky that Finn saw, and everyone else was in the castel. Finn hears the screams before anyone else. Therefore, I conclude that he must have heard them through the Force, much like Obi Wan heard the screams of the people of Alderaan in ANH.
Now some have said that Finn is hearing the other patrons from Maz’s castle screaming. However, he doesn’t look over at them as you would expect if that were the case, he looks straight up. Either way, he senses something in the sky.
2. Kylo Ren sense Finn.
There is a scene in the village on Jakku that caught my attention. Finn is just standing there, and Kylo Ren walks by, stops, and takes a look at Finn. I’m thinking from this scene that Finn was giving off more than the typical guy. Kylo sensed something in him, and was aware of his presence. Now this could be all Kylo’s Force-powers. However, I’m thinking that Kylo’s response was more than what he would typically do for just any person. He senses something in Finn, and I think this might be due to the Force. Could this be the awakening that Snoke and Kylo sensed? Maybe at least one of them.
3. Finn is pretty good with a lightsaber, and gets better throughout the film.
This one could just be some sort of raw skill. However, according to legends, only a Force-sensitive, like a Jedi, can wield a lightsaber effectively. Check this quote from wookieepedia:
It was a weapon that required skill and training, and was greatly enhanced when used in conjunction with the Force.
So we then have to ask, was Finn’s use of the saber good enough to suspect the Force? I think so. He was able to do some damage to Kylo Ren’s shoulder on his second time using one in a fight. Kylo was supposed to be a well-trained Dark side user that built his own lightsaber, and he is hurt by just an ordinary guy?
While on this one, Finn is also really effective with the ships blasters, both on the TIE fighter and the Falcon, after just learning how to do it. He is as good if not better than Luke was in ANH. Could he be tapping into the Force here?
4. The Force seems to be guiding Finn in some way.
This one’s maybe a stretch. However, there are a lot of instances where Finn ends up in the right place at the right time. He manages to walk straight to Rey after crashing on the desert. Somehow, it is as if the Force was guiding him to the Niima Outpost when he could have just ended up in some random place in the desert. Props to T_googs91 for this idea.
So the question is, will we see this developed further? I hope so. I’m kind of hoping that Finn will come back as a Jedi. Time will tell if this happens. Maybe he’ll surprise everyone and save the day in Episode VIII.
