Weekly Star Wars Recap #88: May 1st 2017

It’s gonna be May….the Fourth be with you… Umm is there another meme/pun I can do? No? OK lets get to the news then.  All the news you need to know, spoilers ahead!

Luke’s necklace in The Last Jedi

MakingStarWars.net has this report about Luke’s necklace as part of his costume. Now MSW talks about it potentially being a Kyber crystal from Darth Vader’s lightsaber. This would be very interesting development and while some have raised the idea that it wouldn’t be recoverable after RotJ I suspect that can be hand-waved away with a line of dialog or even in a comic. Basically if Lucasfilm and Rian want it to be Vader’s it’ll be Vader’s. It’s interesting to compare this necklace to the one that Jyn Erso had in Rogue One. What does this necklace theme say about alternate ways to celebrate the Force? Snoke is also said to have a giant kyber crystal on a ring, so jewelry in the Star Wars universe is a growing thing…

Kylo Ren and Rey’s costumes in TLJ

Reddit user Stalemate9 Posted the image below showing movie still images of Kylo and Rey. Rey’s costume we have seen partially before and the Kylo image confirms that his cape will be more Vader like than his previous cape/hood. I gotta say that Rey is looking fierce. She looks pretty tough, but still staying feminine. She is balancing it all, strength, power, smarts, and beauty.

A sketch of the new creatures Porgs

MSW has this report on the Porgs. You can read our thoughts here. These things are cute, and may play a critical part in the next movie. They have merchandizing written all over them. Let’s hope nobody get’s sick of these cute little characters…

Two character names from the Han Solo movie

MSW has this report on the names. I like the name Mother Proxima, no idea what type of character this could be but maybe she runs an orphanage? Val is the name of a love interest. It’s always a love interest. I’m calling it. If not that, it could be related to Han’s connections with the underworld.

Rian is NOT involved in Episode IX writing.

This is disapointing as Rian’s writing is better than Colin’s. This was a little bit surprising given that we’ve heard from a long time that he would be writing both films. That being said I trust in Lucasfilm. You could also say that with Rian Johnson doing the editing (in addition to the writing and directing of The Last Jedi), he has his hand’s full.
