Weekly Star Wars Recap #106: Sept 11, 2017

Another week another recap! And boy howdy we got some news for you! Let’s jump right into it and remember spoilers ahead!

Colin Trevorrow is not directing episode IX

In case you’ve been living under a rock or camping for the past week, you probably know this one. It’s been covered by everyone from Colbert to the blogosphere. Here’s the story on the Wrap. Here’s our take on what’s going on and who should direct instead.

Mark Hamill talking lightsaber

Although we don’t know if he was talking about lightsaber training for TLJ or something earlier, it certainly sounds like TLJ. If so, this could be one of the biggest leaks yet, however; it doesn’t tell us the context of how this will happen. Will he ignite his green saber, Rey’s blue saber, or will he pick up someone else’s? Furthermore, it isn’t clear who will he fight, but could be The Knights of Ren, the Praetorian Guards or Snoke, which could be amazing. Maybe all of them? Time will tell.

Poe’s been demoted?

Pablo Hidalgo responded to a tweet question, and although he didn’t answer it directly, his response does imply to some the affirmative.

This one’s a bit interesting. Maybe they are going for the “Captain Dameron” thing to ring like “Captain Solo”? This could support early rumors of a confrontation with Admiral Holdo, assuming that it’s Holdo that demotes him. It also might tie into the “Leia slapping him” story Oscar was telling around SWCO.

Rian might not be coming back plus expect surprises

Among the surprises is a confirmation that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will indeed make an appearance in TLJ. Check the video for more!

The Falcon looks like new for Han Solo

According to MSW the ship that Han Solo gets from Lando will have a different paint job and look like new! The paint job could resemble Revenge of the Sith concept art seen here:

Empire with exclusive images and interviews

Empire magazine has this article on the last Jedi. An interesting quote from the article is this one about Snoke:

“He’s a dark force: the scary thing behind the thing. That was entirely how I approached Snoke. I wasn’t interested in explaining where he came from or telling his history, except where it serves this story.”

This quote suggests that like the original trilogy, we may not get a backstory for Snoke any time soon. This makes me wonder if they are saving it for other material like comics of even…fingers crossed…an animated series set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens?
