Weekly Star Wars Recap #133: March 12th, 2018

Hello, ladies and gentlemen of Star Wars fandom. We’re back for another Monday and another recap of the past week’s Star Wars news. Let’s get to it.

Live-action TV Show announced! John Favreau to helm!

This one is pretty big news. It’s one of those stories that’s so big it’s almost not worth us posting it because you already know. John Favreau is to write and executive produce a new live-action Star Wars TV show! We’ve waited quite a very long time for a live-action show, and the wait may just be over. Hard to believe. At this point, we don’t know when or where in the canon it will take place. If you ask me, this is pretty good. The guy is no stranger to world-building in terms of his background with the MCU etc. He might be just the kind of creative mind needed to see the big picture and connect to other projects. When I heard this, I started thinking long term. Will Lucasfilm hire a “Chief Creative Officer” (CCO)? The Lucasfilm story group do a great job, but I wonder if there is room for someone to lead the planning of connections between various projects? If so, then Favreau, along with Filoni and probably others, may be prime choices.

Mark Hamill gets a Hollywood Square!

Check out the video of the whole event. Kinda worth the watch! The video is fast-paced and entertaining. Mark is so deserving of something here. He’s been in the game for a long time, and had a big impact on a lot of people.

Solo movie score is being recorded!

This one comes from a tweet from the great Ron Howard:

The Han Solo theme will be an original theme composed and recorded for this film. No word yet on what relationship it will have to any themes from the original trilogy or other content. Certainly, Williams likes to use “leitmotifs” in his compositions, so I would expect some connection to other music from the OT, such as Han Solo and the Princess.

The Last Jedi stuff

There is a new video from the official site on the filming of Kylo’s cockpit, and the space battle for the film. Lighting in particular is discussed. Another video covers to the showdown between Kylo and Luke. Both pretty cool and worth the watch! Allegedly the blu-ray has hit the internet in some sort of leak. This isn’t too surprising because there is a twitter thread of all the director’s commentary from RJ.
