Recap time. This week has been a back and forth with rumors regarding the Star Wars Story films. Let’s break it down.
No more “Star Wars Story” movies?
First, Collider announced at the beginning of the week that the Star Wars Stories are on hold. It was a bummer for a day, thinking that this may be true. The Hollywood Reporter came back saying otherwise. My gut says that THR is correct and Lucasfilm is just licking their wounds.
Mos Eisley Movie Scrapped
According to MSW it wasn’t all Star Wars Stories, but rather a specific film that we haven’t even heard off–a Mos Eisley Spaceport film. I’m glad MakingStarWars cleared things up for us. But I gotta say, this movie certainly came out of left field. The problem with this Mos Eisley movie is that it suffers from treading the same old territory of Tatooine and connections to the OT. As we’ve discussed recently, it may be the more that Lucasfilm can go outside their usual boundaries the better.
The rumored upcoming Star Wars Story movies may sound cool, but they may also feed “Star Wars fatigue” in some people by using some of the same characters. Don’t get me wrong, we love the OT (and the PT and ST), but seems like we could use something new, but still in the same universe. That being said, we’ll get something new pretty soon with some upcoming brand-new trilogies. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how they handle this! It needs to be different enough to be interesting, but at the same time feel like it’s part of the same galaxy, and capture the same magic.
