Hello, ladies and gentlemen of Star Wars fandom. We’re back for this week’s recap of the latest Star Wars news. We are late again, which has been a trend recently, which we hope to fix soon! Life is busy. Let’s get to the news.
New Details on Live Action Series
We have learned a few minor details that put some things into perspective. We now know from NY Times there will be 10 episodes with a budget of $100 million. To put that in perspective, The Last Jedi is estimated to cost $300 million to make. This amount is pretty impressive for a TV show, and given the other resources available at Lucasfilm, in terms of pre-made CGI backgrounds etc, they could do something amazing. According to Producer Daniel Alter on twitter, the amount may be even more. He also hints at some big surprises…
Perhaps one of the surprises is related to a recent bit of rumor from MakingStarWars, which does make a fair amount of sense. According to the rumor, and MSW does emphasize that this is still a rumor albeit from multiple sources, the show will be about Mandalore after the fall of the Empire, and the political impact that the fall of the Empire had. Further support for this rumor comes from the fact that Director Jon Favreau has done voice acting for the Mandalorian Pre-Vizla. People have then speculated that we could see a live-action version of Sabine Wren or Bo-Katan. Exciting indeed, and could be the kind of show that would draw some hard-core fans to the Disney streaming app.
Mark Hamill filming in Prague?
This one is a bit unclear, but according to Mark Hamill’s twitter, he “might” be filming in Prague. We haven’t heard much about filming being done there yet, but who knows. Mark is known to troll people with his twitter account!
New Details on Carrie Fisher in Episode IX
The big news last week was that old footage of Carrie Fisher as Leia will be used for Episode IX. The latest bit of info on that comes from Todd Fisher, her brother, who says that he actually was a force behind pushing to get Carrie in the film.
Filming of Episode IX has begun!
If you missed it last week, the filming of Episode IX has begun! A recent tweet shows a glimpse of Poe and maybe others like Chewie and possibly Poe:
Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX pic.twitter.com/FOfnGwVut5

The only thing we’d like to add is that this label on the camera has VII and IX listed, suggesting that maybe the new film will also use 35MM as before? Seems very plausible.
