Weekly Star Wars Recap #172: Jan 24th, 2019

Hello there, Star Wars fans! Wow, it’s been a while. Well, life gets busy at times, and I managed to get myself a pretty major cold. Mired by a fog and malaise for a week, I’ve managed to break through. Despite all that time, the government is still shut-down, and we don’t have a trailer or a title for Episode IX. Regardless, I’m back to bring you the latest in Star Wars news! Let’s get to it.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Nominated for a Best Visual Effects Oscar

According to the Oscars website, Solo has been nominated for best visual effects! It isn’t the first Star Wars film to be nominated in this category, and probably not the last. The big question is, does it have a shot? Competition includes Avengers: Infinity War and Ready Player One, so suffice to say the competition is fierce. Fingers crossed for team Lucasfilm! One the subject of the Oscars, it looks like Adam Driver also got a nomination for his work on BlackKklansman (among several others for that film). If Adam scores an oscar for that film, then that bodes well for him being successful outside of Star Wars, like Harrison Ford and Ewan McGregor.

List of Actors and other Star Wars favorites attending Celebration

The official site has posted a list of attendees of the upcoming Celebration event in Chicago. These include Chewbacca himself Joonas Suotamo, and Darth Maul voice Sam Witwer. Hit the link for the full list! Personally, I would be surprised if there aren’t more. We shall see.

Battle Front II News

There were a few stories coming through the Star Wars news pipe as of late, including an image of Dooku, as well as a community update about him. There was also some “datamined info” suggesting that Anakin Skywalker will make an appearance in the game.

Richard Grant interview

Richard Grant is cast in Episode IX, but his role is largely unknown. This article seems to suggest it is a significant role, but others have said that the quote is taken out of context. The quote says that the “room was turned upside down” after hearing who he will play. Nobody knows for sure. It could be a First Order higher-up, or something else. I really like this reddit post about him being a plausible Obi Wan Kenobi ghost. There’s no evidence that this will be the casec but interesting idea nonetheless. Here’s to waiting for more info! If he is First Order, we just might find out really soon. If he is something bigger, it could be a while before any further confirmation.
