Weekly Star Wars Recap #174: April 2nd, 2009

Welcome back to Spoiled Blue Milk, Star Wars fans! We’re back for another weekly recap on the latest in Star Wars. We deliberately didn’t post yesterday on April 1st so you’ll know this is for reals. We’ve got a fair amount to cover, so let’s get to it!

Star Wars Celebration News

With Celebration only 2 weeks away, you can be assured that news is imminent. Somehow, Lucasfilm has managed to keep things under wraps for such a long time, and with the title, trailer, and things that we could never expect on the way, the surprise will be all the sweeter.

This article’s featured image is in fact from a Star Wars Celebration mural from the official site. I’m looking forward to seeing this in person, along with everything else.

Episode IX Details

There was a poster leak that reveals the appearance of many of the characters in Episode IX. While this isn’t the official movie poster, it does appear to be legit, possibly a “retail image” shared with Lucasfilm partners because the costumes are different from the previous films, and they also match other recently leaked content:

The upper right of this poster reveals a new version of the Y-wing, as well as a McQuarrie-inspired A-wing design.

The costumes match this other character image here, and the detail with which the costumes are presented, and the amount of work that it would have taken to photoshop both of these images is immense.  That seems to suggest that these are legit:

As you can see from the image, John Boyega has a red stripe through his pants, much like Han Solo. Boyega also confirmed this in a twitter response:

Mark Hamill has responded to these image leaks and suggests that they are the work of an “ultra passionate fan” (UPF).

However, given the detail involved, and the fact that a lot of this matches other leaked images in style, but not the exact image, suggests to me that this is more plausible.

The Mandalorian News

I can’t speak on the legitimacy of this source “HN Entertainment“, but they claim to have a “source” that has stated that The Mandalorian has already been picked up for a second season before the first one is released. This seems plausible to some extent, if the executives have seen the cut of the first season and like it so much they are sure about continuing. If true, then this is exciting news for the series, which releases this fall. However, in this new era of internet news, it’s also plausible that this site just made this up to sound plausible to drive traffic to their site.

In other news, Slashfilm reports that Werner Herzog will play the villain for the series. Herzog is quite an interesting actor and director and could bring a nice gravitas to the role. Here’s hoping that we’ll get some footage of the show in a couple of weeks!

Stay tuned to Spoiled Blue Milk for the best of Star Wars!
