Weekly Star Wars Recap #162: Oct 15th, 2018

Hello out there in Star Wars fandom. We’re back to review another week of Star Wars news. It’s actually a pretty exciting time right now for Star Wars. It almost kind of feels like 2015 again. Let’s discuss why. As usual, spoilers and speculation below!

New Details on the Mandalorian!

Part of the reason why the new leaks are rumors are so exciting is because The Mandalorian takes place only three years after Return of the Jedi. This means that some of the things we will learn in this series will finally shed light on what happened after a movie we saw in 1983. The Force Awakens had the same feeling, but may have been too big of a time jump. Some of the new leaks that are coming from Making Star Wars may reveal some details about how the galaxy changed in the early days after Return of the Jedi, and kind of raise my expectations on what we could learn from this show. While it may not be the main subject matter of the show, I would expect to hear a lot of side dialogue about how the galaxy is changing. In particular, the latest leaks suggest that stormtroopers should be in the show. This means, that there were still stormtroopers walking about 3 years after RotJ. That said, we actually don’t know what or where this takes place, or even if it is part of a flashback or not, but my money is that parts of the Empire still remain. According to Favreau,

We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic (instagram)

So it could be that the stormtroopers are remaining in the outer rim, or maybe even we’ll see something in the Unknown Regions related to the early formation of the First Order.

Related to this, MSW has also provided leaks of other new characters in the show, but for now all we know is what they look like, given that this are just photos at this point. So a lot of this stuff could just be a blink-and-you-miss-it part of the show, and other parts of it could be significant. It’s all exciting nonetheless.

Jon Favreau Shares Image of Mandalorian Weapon

This one comes from Jon Favreau’s instagram. Here’s the image:

As we mentioned last week, this weapon is essentially the same as the one used by Boba Fett in the Holiday Special. That seems like a minor point considering the weapon just looks cool. It has a great vibe to it.

New Details on Episode IX

These details are minor, but worth mentioning. Oscar Isaac has recently said that there is a greater “improvisational” feel to Episode IX. This is in contrast to past rumors that Lord and Miller’s improvisational style of directing Solo was part of the reason for them being fired.

Another detail comes from Making Star Wars again, and this time about an orange X-wing that has been observed in black park, a location where filming has been observed. Fans will recall that Poe’s black X-wing was destroyed in Episode IX, so it makes sense that this could be his updated rig.

Chuck Wendig Fired from Marvel Comics

In a recent tweet, Chuck Wendig has told the world that he has been fired from Marvel Comics. This is an unexpected turn of events for sure. To me, it sounds like he was defending himself from some attacks from people that didn’t like his Aftermath book. A lot of people don’t like some of the new books, but to me that doesn’t seem like justification for messing with the author online. If you don’t like the book, go find something else to read.

Battlefront II Details

We have recently learned that a lot of the voice actors for The Clone Wars are reprising their roles on Battlefront II, presumably for some upcoming content for the game released last year. This is a cool bit of continuity that will give the game a more cinematic feel.
