Lucasfilm dropped the name and the first image from Jon Favreau’s live action The Mandalorian and just about everyone is excited. I have to say credit goes to MakingStarWars, if he wasn’t dropping the information all week I doubt we would have gotten an official news drop on a Thursday evening of all days… So let’s look at we expect will and won’t be happening in the new live action series.

With Solo: A Star Wars Story discourse dying down and the experts saying marketing and timing were to blame for its box office disappointment the question becomes what does Lucasfilm and Disney learn from this and what direction should they head? Let’s take a look.
The Force Awakens set the table for the new trilogy, then The Last Jedi broke all the plates in the best way possible. That gives JJ Abrams a whole mess of plot lines and characters to try to bring to a conclusion AND still leave the possibility open for future trilogies. So lets look into what we think should happen and what we would like to see.

Every Star Wars trilogy has had its issues. Despite a vocal minority that seems to dislike anything they can find in the sequels, including things well established in the previous two trilogies, the sequels have had very few real issues. There is one issue that they have had, their reliance on Original Trilogy characters. Episode IX has the chance to avoid this, they just have to limit Luke to a cameo. Shocked? Lets look at what this means.
Today, we’d like to discuss the giant elephant in the Star Wars room–Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi. As it turns out, Rian Johnson gave us a Luke that better than anything we could imagine, and truer to the character than anything we got in the old EU. Shocked, disagree? Spoilers ahead.

Since it was revealed that Kylo Ren was in fact Ben Solo there has been speculation that he is this trilogy’s Vader and he will be redeemed. There are many that have said because Kylo killed Han he can’t be redeemed. I think they are right but I also don’t think that Vader was ever redeemed. Confused? The Force-back in The Force Awakens showed us Luke looking heart broken next to R2 with a burning building in the background. That image gave us ideas of what may have happened, and most of the theories developed went with “Luke came home to find his Academy, and students killed by Kylo Ren and possibly the Knights of Ren.” But now we know that is not true. Let’s talk about what that means.
Ever since Mark Hamill said he fundamentally disagreed with Rian Johnson’s choices for Luke and the “The Jedi must end” line in the teaser, people have speculated that Luke will go dark. They are wrong. Today we’re going to explore why they are wrong and what Mark and the line really means.

The untitled Han Solo has been through quite a bit of production woes. It also doesn’t seem to have intrigued many fans, this is my own personal perspective based on social media and article comments etc. The latest rumor has split the fan base as well. Lets look into it and talk about what it could mean.
If there is one character we don’t really know much about, besides Snoke of course, it’s General Armitage Hux. He seems to be fanatical and in charge of the military wing of the First Order… and that’s about it. No novels about him, no short stories, and no comics, and he is a strong secondary character. Lets not be coy, Lucasfilm and its directors are having a problem. It seems the only film so far of the five known films without script and/or director problems was The Last Jedi. That seems a little disconcerting to most fans but we’re going to say it should be encouraging. Let’s talk about why.

Though we have heard that Poe’s involvement will be more substantial in The Last Jedi, we have not gotten many details. He was the breakout character from The Force Awakens, gave Finn his name, and he wasn’t even supposed to survive. Luckily Oscar convinced JJ to keep Poe around and we’ll get to see more of him in The Last Jedi. I’m going to try to put together everything we know and see if we can figure out what Poe is up to during The Last Jedi.

There has been much speculation on Rey’s orgins and one of the most prevalent ideas is that we see her family die in the Force-back in The Force Awakens. I’m referring of course to the “Clan” that was killed by Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren. While we did not get a trailer at D23 we did get a ton of new information and confirmation of several things as well. I’m going to focus on Finn today and what we can speculate and confirm based on the snippets we saw. Potential spoilers ahead.
The Sith under Palpatine had a goal, destruction of the Jedi and to rule the Galaxy. The First Order under Snoke has a goal, destruction of the Jedi and to Rule the Galaxy. In the old EU the darkside seemed to have the same goal 1000 years before ANH and few hundred years after. The question is why do they want to rule the Galaxy? Why did the First Order decide to leave the Unknown regions and attempt to take over? Lets see what we know and if we can figure out the motivations that drive Snoke and the First Order.
Last week was a very good week to be a Star Wars fan. We got several new episodes of Forces of Destiny and some news sprinkled in here and there. So lets take a look and see what has developed.

For years the old EU was the only new Star Wars we got, then the Prequels happened! And then it was back to the EU, which was then wiped clean with the exception of The Clone Wars series once Disney acquired Lucasfilm. This was done for several reason which we discussed here.
